IDEAS FOR YOUR NEW HOME

Here are some ideas to think about when considering your new home (and its internal wiring), ensuring that your new home is ready to meet the demands of your lifestyle now, and in the future.

In how many rooms would you like to have telephones?        How many telephone lines will you need?

Would you benefit from a phone system, with whole house paging and intercom capabilities?
Would you like to see who's at the front door, and maybe talk to them from your bedroom or living room?
What about unlocking the door for them from your phone?

In how many rooms would you like to have Television?
Do you plan on watching Cable or Satellite TV?     Would you like to build the TV into the wall?
Do you plan on having a Home Theater setup?     Would you like to 'hide' speakers (or at least the wire)?
Where will you put the Home Theater equipment?     How about in a closet, or the basement?

Would you like to listen to music around the house?     What about speakers outside?
Would you like to listen to the news in the kitchen, while your spouse listens to their favorite CD in the bedroom?
What about announcing, as opposed to yelling, "Dinnertime" or, "Billy, pick up the phone", throughout the house?

Do you now, or will you ever have, more than one computer?     How will you access the Internet? (Phone, Cable, DSL)
Would you like to share printers, scanners, or Internet connections?
Would you like to move your laptop around the house, and still have access to the Internet and a printer?

Would you like to be able to dim certain lights, for certain occasions (like a party, dinner, or watching a movie)?
How about changing a lighting 'scene' with one press of a button?
Would you like to turn all the lights off, in the whole house, with one press of a button?
Maybe leave a couple of hall lights on, and the foyer light, for some added security?

Would you like your new home to be as clean as possible, eliminating dust and pollutants from the interior entirely?
Would you like your home to be as quiet a home as possible while vacuuming?
Tired of lugging a heavy vacuum up and down the stairs?
Is it a major project to clean out the cars?

And finally, would you like to be able to control all those "black boxes" in front of you from one (remote) controller?

Give us a call with any questions, to receive more information or to set up an appointment. We will be happy to assist you in making these very important decisions concerning your new home.

TIME FRAMES

During the construction of your new home, there are some important timeframes to keep in mind. This is so you have enough time to make the proper decisions concerning the internal wiring in your new home. We always try to contact you as soon as possible, so please forgive us if these timeframes are not accurate for you.
  1. Before Excavation: Initial Contact
We try to contact you before the excavation of the basement. This allows us to start a dialog and to forward along more information.

  2. Before Foundation: 2nd Contact
We discuss the details and answer any questions you may have, typically by phone, and set up an appointment if necessary.

Obviously, if we could not reach you before excavation, or foundation, there is very little time to waste.

  3. Before Framing: 3rd Contact (if necessary)
    • In a meeting, usually at a model home, we can further discuss our services, and offer ideas and suggestions for design and placement of specific technologies
    • We try to cover most details of the homes design in this meeting
    • Other details discussed include: what type of equipment (i.e. Stereo, TV, Speakers) you already own, new equipment you will need to purchase, and how this equipment will be connected together. Please bring any information that you can about your equipment, to make sure we can integrate them.
    • The major details of the Contract and invoicing are agreed upon, and a deposit is paid.

  4. End of Framing: 4th Contact (if necessary)
If we cannot 'hammer out' all of the final locations of outlets, etc. in on of the initial meetings, we can schedule another meeting, this time in your new home (or at least the frame of it). This allows us for a better 'feel' for the room, which is sometimes hard to simulate in a model or on a floor plan. The Balance of the Pre-Wire Amount is due at this time.

  5. Pre-Wire or Rough-In-Stage:
We install all of our services, before insulation and drywall, and prepare for the Finish Stage (3-6 weeks later)

  6. Before Finish Stage: 5th Contact (if necessary)
    • Any equipment details not decided upon earlier must be addressed (i.e. Equipment Brands, Models)
    • Any Balance on purchased equipment is due at this time.

  7. After You Move In: 6th Contact (if necessary)
We will come back for training and / or to install additional equipment not purchased during construction.
